2014/03/14
前回の海外研修速報では、国際文化学科の杉長ジャッキー先生が、第1週目の授業の様子を英語で報告しました。今回は授業後にジャッキー先生が復習を兼ねて行った英語での個人面談の様子をご紹介いたします。なお、一行は研修の全日程を無事終了し、3月10日に全員元気に帰国しました。
Interview with the students
In order to have the students review what they did and continue to use English, I had them tell me what they studied in each class. Some students were interviewed about what they studied in class and this is what they said:
Jackie: So, what things did you study in your class this morning?
Kaori: We studied about word pronunciation and also about how to ask questions about travelling and holidays, for example: ‘Where did you go?’, ‘Who did you go with?’, and ‘How long did you stay for?’ and so on.
Jackie: And did everyone in the class have a good holiday?
Kaori: All of the students had a good holiday, but the teacher Tanya, didn’t.
Jackie: Oh, why not? What happened?
Kaori: She said the hotel she stayed in was bad. The rooms were too small.
The other students were with Ms. Robyn’s class. They learned about the weather, and useful Australian words and phrases, some of which were also new to me.
Another student was interviewed and asked: What did you study in your last class? She answered:
Haruka: This morning we studied about the weather and how to explain about the weather.
Jackie: For example?
Haruka: For example, it’s sunny, cloudy, drizzle, overcast etc.
Jackie: Do you know what’s the weather like in Tokyo today?
Haruka: I think that it might be cloudy and about 10 degrees. It’s colder than here, because it’s summer here and winter there.
Jackie: And can you describe the weather today in Brisbane?
Haruka: It’s mostly cloudy but partly sunny and there is no sign of rain.
One of the last classes finished with the students doing pair interviews with each other to continue with questioning practice.
I think for the students, that being in a different country and experiencing another culture added to their learning experience. All of the students enjoyed their interactive classes learning about new language and Australian culture. I hope the second week will be as successful as the first.
